In this show:
- Zan and Jana try to sound serious and knowledgeable about pressing issues of the day, such as the climate change talks in Bali and the question of why Australians’ quality of life is supposed to be so good when we neglect education and overrun our country with hallucinogen-secreting toads
- things to do in Melbourne
- an Amateur Cognitive Science update on colours and perception
- and a poignant tale of parental abandonment recounted live on air by Uncle Bob.

On Japanese people calling ‘go’ traffic lights blue:
The ‘go’ light isn’t really green, but a mix of green and blue. This is so people with red-green colour blindness (like me) can tell it isn’t red or amber. They often do look blue to me, especially some of the newer ones.
However, I always call it a “green light” when describing it to other people though, as otherwise I sound like an idiot…

The bar in Melbourne made up to look like a science lab is called the Croft Institute, named after the lane it’s in.

Thanks, Doobie. I did know that, even though I’m nowhere near cool enough to hang out there.

Hah! Jana’s giggling during Uncle Bob’s visit is delightful and contagious.

I am NEVER going to look at a public spa the same way again thanks to Uncle Bob’s story
My worst Christmas present ever was a packet of home brand (black & gold to be specific) paper table napkins from my then partner’s mother. Total value…$1.09. I already knew that she hated me but having to open it in front of everyone so that they all knew too made for a memorable Christmas day.

I agree with Kevbo! Jana’s giggling was delightful!
Speaking of Ho Shit, the person credited in the Jackie Chan movie, someone asked, don’t they know what their name means?
This link, http://youtube.com/watch?v=NZ3P-S9LBKA , goes to a YouTube video of a Wang commercial. Wang Laboratories was a company based in nearby Lowell, Massachusetts, USA. In the 1970s they made calculators and then PC-compatible computers, later concentrating on word-processing. They were very successful, and widely known, at least in the US.
Of course, “Wang” came from the company’s founder, Dr. An Wang. Even so, it was a frequent source of ribald jokes. One I still recall was spoken by a high school friend who, after a few hours of frustrating work with his calculator, said, “Yeah, I just spent the morning beating on my Wang.”

It really didn’t occur to me to say anything about the wedding in my voicemail. If anyone is interested, they can hear the details in this episode of Tvindy Time. (And if they’re really obsessed, they can watch actual footage of the wedding and reception here.)
