…the beautiful, the perfect, the aDORable…
Miss Abigail Pearl.
Who made her entrance into the world on February 23rd, 2007 at 1.35pm. This makes her a Pisces, born on the cusp of Aquarius, and a little Chinese Pig(let).
Thank you so much everyone for all your good wishes. Zan printed them out and brought them to me in hospital, where I enjoyed them in between my exciting schedule of Dr Phil, knitting, DVDs and my thrilling once a day trip to the shower.
Some might say my rant about medicalised childbirth bit me in the bum big time, and I’m bound to say that I agree with them. Certainly knocked me off my smug, perfect pregnancy pedestal. Still, we managed it so that the main event provided a peaceful, healthy and loving beginning for our precious girl, even if it wasn’t so peaceful for her parents.
We will be back podcasting very soon, and here is a challenge for all of you - we need a nom de plume for little miss Abi. Gleek is taken, obviously.
Love to you all.
Jana

C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S ! So glad to hear it all went well.
Welcome to Miss Abigail Pearl! - may you find the world is your oyster.
February 28th, 2007 at 5:23 am
Outstanding! Congratulations to you both and a hearty welcome to Abigail Pearl.
February 28th, 2007 at 10:24 am
Hurray! Congratulations! And hello little Abigail. How exciting.
For a name, Caitlin says “Wonder Tot.” (Apparently it was Wonder Woman’s name as a baby) Looking through Wikipedia’s huge list of DC comics characters, Misfit caught my attention. I imagine you’ll be wanting to call her that in a few years!
February 28th, 2007 at 10:28 am
Yaayyy!!!! I’m relieved you’re all OK. Congratulations!

February 28th, 2007 at 1:59 pm
I’m so happy for you, all three!
Good luck on the nom, I’m no help, I named my cat “Cat”. Perhaps she will develop a podcast style that will make a nom obvious.
February 28th, 2007 at 9:38 pm
Aww that is wonderful news. Abigail Pearl, what a gorgeous name… photos? weight? height? All the usual garb (I have 5 nephews so I know the drill LOL).
It is so great to hear that everything is going well.
Take care and I hope you get some rest
Ana xx

I’ve trawled around the web looking for suitable superheroine names to propose. So many names, so few suitable!
Here are my suggestions, in descending order of preference:
Fairchild
Atomic Betty
Defecatia
March 1st, 2007 at 8:59 am
Congrats Jana and Zan!
Great to hear all went well in the end. It brings a smile to my frozen jowls :-0. As for a nom de pod:
Plop
Kerplunk
Vunderkind
March 1st, 2007 at 11:11 am
Congratulations! Will you soon be posting a headless photo of her in the image gallery?
March 1st, 2007 at 2:08 pm
What would one name a superhero whose superpower is irresistable adorability, thus rendering bad guys helpless and only able to say, “Awwwww…… Who’s little cutie? Who’s a little cutie?”
March 1st, 2007 at 3:14 pm
Congrats to you both. Having a child changes your world. We all look forward to hearing you on the podcast again….but take your time….soak it in….they grow so fast.
Phibes
As for a nom de plume….you could always use my favourite….Moon Knight.
March 1st, 2007 at 3:46 pm
Congrats guys. Im glad everything came out fine. We all wait for your next show
March 1st, 2007 at 10:30 pm
Hooray! and congratulations!
March 2nd, 2007 at 6:50 am
Thank you all for your suggestions, they are making me laugh. Right now, I am partial to Wondertot, although I do appreciate the charming simplicty of Plop.
We are going to post some photos of her, head and all. We want to share her adorability with you guys.
Ana, I can’t believe I forgot to put her weight in She weighed 3.13kg, or 6pounds, 14 ounces for those of you who haven’t made the big kid leap to the metric system. A good size, considering she was 3 weeks early. I think she would have been a bit of a heifer if she’d gone full term.
March 2nd, 2007 at 10:12 pm
Woooot! Congrats to you three! Hello little Abigail Pearl.
March 3rd, 2007 at 9:45 am
Wondertot and Plop are good….but c’mon. Moon Knight? Its genius…..though you would have to take some liberties and call her Moon Knightess. I mean if Frank Zappa had a Moon Unit…why can’t Zan and Jana have a Moon Knightess?
March 3rd, 2007 at 4:17 pm
Wooohooo! Congrats to you three!! Lovely name you’ve picked. I’m sure she’s beautiful.
(been trying to post this since the notice came out, laptop won’t let me post for some reason.)
I’ve no doubt we’ll come up with a good alter-ego name for her.
“Form Of A Baby”
March 3rd, 2007 at 11:16 pm
Since she was heading to be a chubby little dear, I suggest Muffintot.
March 4th, 2007 at 5:24 am
WHOO HOO!!! Sweet!
My maternal Grandma Vulcan was also a Pisces, born on Feb 29, 1924. The sweetest, cuddliest woman I ever knew. I like to encourage smart, friendly people to have as many children as possible. There are too many kids raised by idiots in the world. We gotta balance it out somehow.
March 4th, 2007 at 6:34 am
Muffintot! I love it. Possibly we have a winner.
Phibes, I think your love of Moon Knight is clouding your judgment. I’m not sure someone who sleeps most of the day and has questionable personal hygiene habits can really aspire to the heights of Knight(ess)ness just now. Maybe when she’s older.
Love Jana
March 4th, 2007 at 1:59 pm
Aww she is soo tiny Jana - I guess hopping out 3 weeks early makes for a teeny baby. I bet she is absolutely strange looking but all babies are cute- I think it is a requirement so everyone will love them
Hope you are all well xx Ana xx
PS I love “Muffintot”
March 9th, 2007 at 10:03 am
Congratulations! I second (or third) “Muffintot”. I am glad that you are all well.
March 13th, 2007 at 5:19 am
A belated but heartfelt congratulations! Glad to hear everyone is doing well. Abigail Pearl is a beautiful name and Muffintot rocks! Hope you stay well, and the selfish corner of my brain hopes you get back to podcasting soon!
March 13th, 2007 at 7:41 am
Okay, baby time is over. Time to stop playing with the tot and get back to work on the next episode of BYU. (The problem with babies is that they cause people to become irresponsible.)
March 14th, 2007 at 6:07 am
WHAT. THE. FUCK. “Baby time is over”?? Care of a NEWBORN CHILD comes before all other obligations. To do otherwise, THAT is irresponsible.
March 15th, 2007 at 12:03 am
Chill, elipes. Seriously.
You must be new. Welcome. Look around, listen to some more shows. It’s a nice place to spend time.
Tvindy is a regular here. He’s joking. We’re all looking forward to hearing Zan and Jana again, but of course we know first things come first. No one would expect or want Zan and Jana to do as you fear, though we’re not above a well-meaning nudge, as you read. We’ve actually got a pretty cool community here.
March 16th, 2007 at 7:58 am
Don’t worry guys, we’ll be back soon. I suggested to Zan we might do a show this weekend, but as he is the one who does all the actual show work - I just turn up and talk - it’s really up to him. And Abi, obviously, we have to see how she’s feeling about us doing something for a couple of hours that doesn’t revolve around her…
March 20th, 2007 at 7:18 am
Fantastic!! welcome to the world little person
Hope everyone is adjusting well. looking forward to your next show (Whenever…..)
March 20th, 2007 at 8:41 am
So, elipes…
Any thoughts? I’m surprised you haven’t responded. That high horse of yours was pretty high, but still, I was hoping you’d join in.
Vibeeen
March 20th, 2007 at 8:51 am
Jana,
I was thinking, if Jeanette of PK&J can podcast during a waxing appointment, maybe it would be OK for you and Zan to do a podcast with MuffinTot present, even if she needs nursing, a bottle, or a diaper change. I think it would be a nice added dimension to hear her cooing or vocalizing (a lot of crying might be a bit distracting) during the podcast. In other words, you needn’t commit a few of our precious, child-free hours for podcasting… perhaps you can work it in to the normal flow of day-to-day living? Maybe? Just some food for thought.
Sincerely,
Vibeeen
PS> Now that you’re a mother, I must admit I’m a little ashamed and embarassed to think of you testing a Jackhammer Johnson for your listeners’ benefit. Am I wrong? I think that in an ideal world, mothers would retain healthy, beneficial sexual appetites, but there’s a lot of reality to cope with, and this isn’t an ideal world. I’m so confused.
March 20th, 2007 at 8:54 am
Sorry, that should have been “…your precious, child-free hours for podcasting…” not ours. I do wish this comment system allowed for editing, since I frequently find a mistake or two in my posts.

Ana,
Just as a point of reference, I was 6 pounds, 11 ounces at birth. Abigail Pearl beat me by three ounces. I was baby #2 for my Mom, and even so, the last thing she’d have called my was “teeny” or “tiny!” I gather I was a bit of a challenge, so to speak.

March 20th, 2007 at 11:11 pm
Oh I agree… knowing where babies come from… although all of my nephews have been more than 8 pounds… one was even 10pds5 and another 10pds2… so I guess she was teeny tiny compared to the big heffers that I am used to (btw the mother of those huge babies did it all without too much trouble, my other sisters baby was 8pd something and had a WHOLE heap of trouble…guess size has little to do with it?)
March 20th, 2007 at 11:40 pm
Wow those are some big boys! I’m glad their Mom tolerated the deliveries well. My Mom says my big head was the big problem.
I’m reminded of the day my grandson was born. I was at hospital with my daughter all day and into the night. A few times I had to sit outside the room while a doctor examined her, and I’d hear scared, lonely mothers-to-be weeping softly in their rooms. My heart broke, but I saw some of those same women later, after they gave birth, and they were so happy. Exhausted, but happy. I learned a few things that day.
I hope Zan and Jana tell some birthing day stories on the next podcast.
March 21st, 2007 at 9:33 am
This is a sensitive, caring side of Vibeeen that we haven’t seen before! Perhaps exposing it is MuffinTot’s superpower?
March 28th, 2007 at 1:41 pm
Zan,I want to bend you over and show you what love is.
March 29th, 2007 at 2:46 am
The Vag is right. During BYU’s unfortunate absence, I think we should all make the best of these difficult times by having a listen to my podcast, Radio Free Marist. We know how tough it can be when your favorite podcast suddenly disappears, and we’re ready to help. Plus, we record on an (almost) regular basis.
March 30th, 2007 at 1:14 am
You know, I think Zebulon is on to something–MuffinTot has brought out The Vag’s sensitive, caring side, too!
What an amazing little baby. I can’t wait to hear her cooing softly someday soon.
Out of curiosity, how many here have had a newborn? (I married into a pre-formed family, so I missed out on the first few sleepless years.) I wonder what you parents would guess as to the length of the BYU hiatus? Any guesses, thoughts, etc.?

March 30th, 2007 at 2:30 pm
My son just turned two today, Vibeeen…..a child is a light in this life. I remember how it was when Phibes Jr was just born…..Zan and Jana have their hands full and I hope they are taking the chance to soak in all the newness…..and sleep whenever they get a chance.
March 31st, 2007 at 6:31 am
Phibes, I know what you mean. I held my grandson when he was about 30 minutes old… The moment was… beyond words.
April 5th, 2007 at 9:39 am
Happy Easter! Or ‘Happy Four Days Of Decorating’, as I look at it. Whatever, all the best!
P.S. I know you now have other priorities, but I’m really, really missing hearing some genuinely intelligent conversation…
April 7th, 2007 at 9:30 pm
Wow, 41 comments! I guess I need to check back here a bit more often. I’m only just now reading the comment from elipes. (It made me laugh out loud.) I agree with Vibeeen that no one would mind if you put out an episode with your baby in the background, even if she’s loud and causes several interruptions. Lately I’ve been moonlighting and leaving long voicemails over at the Love Long and Prosper podcast, but they don’t always play everything I send. Often they play less than 15 minutes of my comments per episode. So I’m definitely looking forward to the return of BYU. I’ll doubtless celebrate your next episode by sending you an hour and a half of voicemails.
April 9th, 2007 at 8:07 pm
Tvindy
They often play less than 15 minutes of your voicemails?!?!? How long are the ones you leave them Tvindy??? You are hiliarious… podcasters everywhere must just love you teehehe.
I miss BYU
I am starting to feel a little left out… like the older child after the baby comes home from hospital and feeling no longer adored
No one wants to hear me sing “I’m a little teapot” because everyone wants to look at the CUTE new baby…LoL
April 11th, 2007 at 2:56 am
Speaking of looking at the new baby, how about a picture?
April 12th, 2007 at 3:01 am
Ana, generally speaking, my voicemails are infinitely long, but sometimes they’re longer.
Zan & Jana, I know that when it was brought up earlier, I was against the idea of you setting up a forum, but I’m thinking it might be time. The forums would be a good place for people to hang out while we’re waiting for a new episode to come out. Also, your show has built up so many recurring themes, that it might actually be possible to maintain multiple threads of conversation at once. But mainly, once you post an entry that garners 45 comments, you’re ready to release message boards upon the world.
By the way, do you twitter?
April 13th, 2007 at 10:55 am
Hello, all you lovely people. Thank you for being so patient and supportive. We are planning to do our first post-muffintot show TOMORROW, so Tvindy, get those voicemails happening.
Oh and Ana, I’ll always want to hear you sing ‘I’m a little teapot’
Kisses, Jana
April 13th, 2007 at 3:37 pm
YAY!!! A new show
April 14th, 2007 at 1:43 am
Actually, I think you still have an old voicemail that I left soon after your last episode. I’m not sure I have enough material to leave a new voicemail in time for the next show, but I’ll be sure to take notes when it comes out, so I can leave a gargantuan voicemail in response to it.
April 14th, 2007 at 10:11 am
*Ahem*
April 14th, 2007 at 11:51 am
A new show?
I am SO excited!!!
April 15th, 2007 at 8:43 am
Can’t wait!!!
April 15th, 2007 at 10:58 am
Cover me in sackcloth and ashes, I was premature with my promises. Muffintot had a TERRIBLE night on Friday, hece we were zombies all the next day. We decided to spare you all a show of us saying ‘um…’ and pausing.
Next week for sure. We can tell you all about the Amazing Roof Gutter Cleaning Adventures of Zan.
xx Jana
April 15th, 2007 at 2:00 pm
Whew! I was starting to get worried.
Not to get you all in a huff, but I read in the paper today that John Howard wants to bar anyone with HIV or AIDS from immigrating to Australia. I have to say, I could kind of see your comments that Howard’s like the George Dubya for the opposite side of the globe, but he might even out-do George on this one.
April 16th, 2007 at 1:53 am
Awww, poor kid, poor parents!
Rest up and we’ll eagerly await the promised show.
Wait, were you really zombies? Actual brain-eating zombies? Because they make terrible parents and we’d have to report you for Muffintot’s wellbeing.
April 16th, 2007 at 3:34 pm
Glad to hear that you are putting out more shows. Maybe you culd start off with an explanation of “Cover me in sackcloth and ashes” for those of us in the States that have never heard it. Hope all is well and glad to have you back recording.
April 22nd, 2007 at 10:43 am
Hey, I just had a thought. Are we going to get to see baby pictures complete with an animated superhero head, like the ones we’ve seen of Jana?
