Ever since my podcast came out of summer hiatus, we’ve been maintaining our own voicemail line. Guess who the only person to call it has been. While it is fun to joke about Tvindy, I can’t help but appreciate his dedication to his friends in podcasting like us.
I’ve got one more Trivial Pursuit question left (because at a certain point I just started taking these Australia-related cards home with me, even though it’s my uncle’s game), so with any luck you’ll hear from me again soon.

Thanks, Will. Sometimes I think I devote more time to voicemail than to my own podcast. I’m still trying to work out a systematic methodology for properly channeling and sorting my BYU feedback into the appropriate communications media: voicemail, e-mail and comments. I think the following info works best as a comment:
Zan, I’m not sure I can correctly identify the supervillain you were trying to remember, but two came immediately to mind. The first is The Leader, who was one of the Hulk’s old enemies. Like Bruce Banner, he was exposed to massive amounts of gamma rays, which made him green but not muscular. Instead, his brain got very big and and gave him a herculean intellect far greater than that of any human who has ever lived. He has dedicated his life to figuring out a way to one day outsmart the Hulk. (He’s not very ambitious.)
The other character you may be thinking of is the High Evolutionary. He invented some high-tech gadgets to evolve animals into higher evolutionary forms. I recall that in one issue of the Incredible Hulk he had one of his minions fight the Hulk. It was later revealed that that particular minion had been made from a cockroach. The High Evolutionary also played a roundabout role in the creation of Spider-Woman (the original Spider-Woman, not the one that was introduced in The Secret Wars).

That was a brilliant ad Ryan! Eerily similar to those TV attack ads.
Zan, I’d love to help you with your website, but, I’m, … uh … stupid! ( I’m just sayin’)

Hmm. Could be The Leader as mentioned by tvindy, but you may well have been thinking about Hector Hammond. Which would have been fitting for this episode as he was a villain of GREEN Lantern!
OK, now back to lurking.

Thanks, Cornel. I feel like I’ve failed though, because there were a lot of real attack ads this year that were funnier than mine.

Zan, has something changed on your main page? I notice that my browser uses all remaining CPU cycles when I’m just sitting at the-corridor.info/bobsyeruncle. The page has finished loading, and there’s no network activity to speak of. If I let it sit for a minute, the fans spin up in my laptop.
Both Safari and Firefox behave the same way. If the app is foremost, the CPU activity is 100%. Switching to another app (i.e., moving the browser the the background, while while still visible) will reduce the total CPU activity to about 80-90%. Hiding the browser will reduce the total CPU to about 20%.
There seems to be something about just displaying that your main page that does this. For instance, I have the main page in another tab right now, and I only regain about 7% total CPU by closing that tab. Displaying the tab returns CPU to 100%. I’m fine on this comment page, and I haven’t noticed the issue elsewhere (though I’ll be more aware of that in future).
There doesn’t seem to be any JavaScript activity. I ran a CPU profile while displaying the main page (and doing nothing else) and it looks like “Flash Player” is using 57% of the total CPU. I’ll email that report to you, since it’s big. And techy.

I don’t seem to have that problem. When I look at the main page using Firefox, my CPU usage is only in the mid-thirties. When I minimize Firefox, it goes down to the twenties.

Tvindy,
Mac OS, or XP? Flash version? Also, do you ever use the Flash Player to listen to the shows? I have Mac OS X 10.4.8, Flash 9.0 r20, and I often listen right from the main web page.
For what it’s worth, logging in as a different user on this Mac doesn’t have the problem. I compared the Plugins, and they’re identical, even after emptying the caches. So, not everyone will see this issue, but I’ve yet to fix it on my Mac, and it’s clearly something to do with Flash Player.

I use XP, but I’ve never listened to BYU with the Flash Player.

I’m getting high CPU usage from the main page as well. My guess is that it’s the clock plugin. It runs continuously, querying a remote clock for the current time.

Zan,
Adobe just upgraded Flash Player yesterday. After installing it, the main BYU page doesn’t max out CPU usage. It is high, but only 75-80%.
