International listeners may not know that today is Koala Stomping Day, an important event on the Australian calendar. This year, to honour the memory of Steve Irwin, the Australian government has decreed that every Australian must stomp on two koalas, rather than the customary one. As a result, we have been too busy applying our boots to Australian native fauna to record a show - sorry guys. We’ll be back next weekend, we promise.
Please Note: Zan and Jana do not guarantee the truthfulness of any excuses which might be given on this web page.

Thanks for the reminder guys.
I have been busy Stomping koalas all day, I even tried a few kangaroos, but those buggers are just too fast !
Have a good week off and thanks for the birthday greetings.

I’d be careful. If the normally docile stingrays have already started to rise up and kill the humans, koala bears might be the next.

Sorry I have to correct you Ryan.
Koala’s are not bears.

I’ve joined the festivities but my boots smell like cough drops/lozenges now.

Well, Steven, it looks like a bear, smells like a bear, and it kills people. So it must be a bear.

I was hoping to listen to a new show, but holidays are holidays. I, personally look forward to my favorite American-mammal related festival, June 17th, sperm whale slapping. Looking forward to your next show. Cheers.

Ryan,
I have never heard of a Koala killing anyone, but there are many people in Australia who would like to kill anyone who kills a Koala.
Lets leave it at that.

Keep up the great show. By the way I like the new shorter more frequent show format better, thanks.

I had a substitute English teacher (in Denmark) once, who went into considerable (and regrettable) detail when describing how aboriginals were sometimes referred to as “booms” due to the sound they make when they hit the fender of a big 4X4…so I’ll believe your cover-up: Just another mental image I’ll never get rid of

Just downloaded the new Weird Al Yankovic album (Yeah, I’m not ashamed to say it) and there’s a song “Weasel Stomping Day.” Are Bob’s Yer Uncle really closeted Weird Al fans?

Dane,
The word is ‘boong’, although I’ve never heard that explanation (which I think was made up after the fact). It’s an extremely offensive racial epithet in Australia - your substitute teacher must have been a pretty unsavoury character.

Ryan,
Koala Stomping Day has no connection with Weasel Stomping Day, which sounds like pure fiction. Stomping on a weasel would be very difficult, whereas stomping on a koala, which is a fat, short-limbed, lethargic creature often intoxicated on eucalyptus oil, is perfectly possible. Koala’s do a have mean set of claws, however, and a bad temper, so it would require a quick, decisive movement of the leg to be effective.
